Why Provide a Health History?
Being well-prepared for your appointment with the required health history will ensure that the doctor has the necessary information to provide the best possible care for you. This includes providing a thorough medication list so that we may provide appropriate care and accommodations to your unique healthcare needs. Your oral health is very important to us and we hope you understand that by sharing your health history, this will permit us to provide you with personalized oral healthcare.
What to expect at your first visit:
If you are scheduling a New Patient exam, there are three main types of exams for New Patients:
- Emergency Exam (limited exam)
- Comprehensive exam
- Consultation appointment
An Emergency Exam (limited exam) is scheduled when you require a problem-focused evaluation. This appointment commonly involves oral pain or acute needs/concerns involving broken teeth, decayed teeth, oral pain, trauma, and oral infections. During this triage appointment you will be evaluated for a diagnosis of the issue and your treatment options. Our team makes every effort to provide same-day care when possible, but we can not guarantee this. If you are having generalized discomfort, please consider a Comprehensive Exam, which will allow us to evaluate all teeth and the health of your gums. Please be patient with our team as we try to accommodate you to the best of our abilities. We are dedicated to resolving your issues and will strive towards taking care of your oral health concerns.
A Comprehensive Exam is for New Patients interested in becoming established within our practice. We recommend comprehensive care as to provide evaluation of your oral health care and provide comprehensive dental treatment. Each patient is unique and we want to provide tailored treatment options based on your needs. In adult patients, we do not complete hygiene visits until evaluating your periodontal (gum) health, as some patients may require a different type of cleaning to address bone loss from periodontal disease. Please understand that hygiene appointments vary in time, and we do not want to lose quality care for patients by using a "one size fits all" approach. You are unique and we need our patients to know that we care about your oral health.
Consultations are for patients interested in learning about services such as implants, "All-on-4"/"All-On-6" implant solutions, implant retained dentures, etc. At a consultation appointment, we can provide education on different solutions to address your treatment curiosities and a general idea of treatment cost. We can only provide estimates because, until we can evaluate with x-rays, we can not provide an exact treatment based off of your unique circumstance (i.e. some patients may require bone graft or sinus lifts prior to implant placement). We highly recommend becoming an established patient and scheduling a Comprehensive Exam following this appointment, once you have decided to let us become your new dental home. This will allow us to evaluate all other teeth and you gum health, which is not a part of the consultation.
